Twenty Plus Reading Program

Purpose: A school-wide program to encourage students to read independently for pleasure.

Guidelines:

- Students are provided with time to meet the Twenty Plus expectations during Sustained Silent Reading period, homeroom period, after tests and quizzes, and at other reasonable times.

- Homeroom teachers approve book selections - (Books must be 100 pages minimum.)

- Teachers keep records/charts of books read.

- Students complete a one-page summary of each book read.

- Books of over two hundred pages may count as more than one book at teacher discretion.  Size of type, pictures, etc. will be taken into consideration.

- Books that have been made into movies require prior approval from the homeroom teacher.

- Summer reading may count as part of Twenty Plus, but not as part of the first four books required for grading.  Students are informed that all books on the summer reading list qualify for Twenty Plus and are encouraged to get a head start.

Grading:

Grading is reflected on the second and fourth term report card under "Twenty Plus."
