Twenty Plus
Reading Program
Purpose: A school-wide program to encourage students to read
independently for pleasure.
Guidelines:
- Students are provided with time to meet the Twenty Plus
expectations during Sustained Silent Reading period, homeroom
period, after tests and quizzes, and at other reasonable times.
- Homeroom
teachers approve book selections - (Books must be 100 pages
minimum.)
- Teachers keep records/charts of books read.
- Students complete a one-page summary of each book read.
- Books of over two hundred pages may count as more than one
book at teacher discretion. Size of type, pictures, etc.
will be taken into consideration.
- Books that have been made into movies require prior approval
from the homeroom teacher.
- Summer reading may count as part of Twenty Plus, but not as
part of the first four books required for grading.
Students are informed that all books on the summer reading list
qualify for Twenty Plus and are encouraged to get a head start.
Grading:
Grading is reflected on the second and fourth term report card
under "Twenty Plus."
