Traffic Patterns and Student Drop-off at Higgins Middle School

  • In order to ensure the safety of all students and a smooth flow of car traffic, cars should not drive up our Allens Lane driveway in the morning to drop children off at the mall area.  All cars should turn left at the bottom of the hill and follow the traffic loops to avoid the bus drop-off.  The only exception to this policy is for families dropping off students with significant mobility concerns (i.e. crutches, wheelchairs).  Students in the 6th and 7th grade should be dropped off following this pattern.
  • Students in the 8th grade should be dropped off via the King St. Ext. entrance.  There, parents can drive a loop through the parking lot or around the traffic island to drop their children near the gym entrances.
  • Parents who have children in multiple grades may opt to use either drop-off area.  There is less traffic on the King St. side of the building, and all students are permitted to walk through the school if needed to go to their grade level drop-off location.
  • Students should not arrive at school prior to 7:50 a.m.  Before this time, we are unable to provide adult supervision. Please do not allow children to walk or ride to school prior to this hour and do not drop them at school before 7:50 a.m.
  • There is no parking permitted along the roadways that circle Higgins Middle School.  Please do not park and wait at the side of any road.  There is ample parking in lots for you to await your child at dismissal.
  • Please be patient with us as we manage the traffic before and after school.  Especially in inclement weather, you may experience delays as you pick up and drop off your children.

Thank you for all you do to support your children and their learning at Higgins!  We look forward to a great year with all of you!
