Reprint of a letter from Mr. Leverett Poor, a
companion of Mr. Waterman in Burnside's expedition....We have taken between
three and four thousand prisoners, all their arms, ammunition, and provisions.
They had barracks which they had just finished and it was evident that they
intended to make it their winter quarters. The prisoners were very
shabbily dressed...Our loss was 50 killed and 200 wounded...."
