Annual Report of the School Committee of the Town of South Danvers. April 1858.

Peabody High School

Mr. C. L. Cushman, Principal
Miss L. R. Wright, Assistant

This school has been larger than in previous years, and the increased labor has been performed with great fidelity and success.  Thoroughness has been the aim of the teachers, and the examination, which was so satisfactory to those in attendance was a fair exponent of the work of the year.

The exercises of the graduating class were, in the highest degree, creditable.  Composition has received much attention, and the exercises in this department were of a high order.  The valedictory was an excellent production, evincing good habits of thought and conciseness of style.  This whole number received the Peabody Medal and valuable prizes.  The first prize was awarded to Hannah C. Nutter.
