SUMMER READING PHILOSOPHY and LIST 2009
The Peabody K-12 Summer Reading Program is intended to support the educational growth and development of the child as a life long learner.  Summer reading helps to maintain the child's reading level, thus ensuring a smoother transition from grade to grade.  Summer reading proposes to foster choice, to encourage appreciation of literature, and to enhance learning by offering a variety of works.

Students should read a book or books from the list for the grade they will enter in September.  During the first week of school, English teachers will administer assessments of the reading for the first term's grade.

Students are encouraged to maintain a reading log with brief notations about plot, setting, characters, conflicts and themes for effective self review before the assessments.  Students at any level may read an additional book with grade for extra credit.
