In-Service Workshop - Course Number:

Category 1: Introduction to Second Language Acquisition, Learning
and Teaching
Description: The purpose of this course is to provide
teachers with knowledge about key factors affecting second language
acquisition and the implications of these factors on classroom
organization and instruction. This course also explores the
implications of cultural differences for classroom organization.
This course includes multiple opportunities for educators to analyze
a variety of classroom tasks using the performance levels in the
English Language Proficiency Benchmarks and Outcomes for English
Language Learners. This course meets Category 1 requirements
as outlined in the Massachusetts Education Commissioner's Memo of
June 15, 2004.
Meeting Schedule: Tuesday, November 17 & December 1, 2009
3:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Location: PVMHS, Library
Enrollment: Maximum of 20 participants
Instructor: Anne Dolan, Certified ELL Trainer
Credit: Participants will receive one in-service credit
(12 PDPs) in ELL. To secure credit, one must attend all
sessions and meet the requirements specified by the instructor and
the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Those applying
for credit must complete an "In-Service Education Registration"
form, sign it, and file it in the Office of the Assistant
Superintendent by the registration due date. This is a
non-credit class.
