Major Goals for the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB)
Goal 1:
By
2013-2014, all students will reach high standards, at a minimum
attaining proficiency or better in reading/language arts and
mathematics.
Goal 2:
By
2013-2014, all students will be proficient in reading by the end of
the third grade.
Goal 3:
All
limited English proficient students will become proficient in
English and reach high academic standards, at a minimum attaining
proficiency or better in reading/language arts and mathematics.
Goal 4:
By 2005-2006, all
students will be taught by highly qualified teachers.
Goal 5:
All students will graduate from high
school.
Peabody Public Schools will:
a)
focus on high
standards and expectations for all students.
b)
implement
instructional changes that will implement with greater impact the
Guiding Principle of the Curriculum Frameworks.
c)
include Title I
staff in the planning, assessing and decision-making relative to
curriculum and instruction.
d)
service children in
pre-kindergarten to grade five in building a strong foundation for
proficiency in Reading/ELA and Mathematics.
e)
service children
with limited English skills until they are proficient in Reading/ELA
and Mathematics.
f)
provide continued
Reading/ELA and Mathematics support to students in grades 3-5 to
ensure proficient skills.
g)
service homeless
children to help fill any academic gaps until they are proficient in
Reading/ELA and Mathematics.
h)
continue to hire and
provide training to highly qualified teachers.
Determining the Needs of
Students at Targeted Assistance Schools (Brown School)
During
the school year, all students at targeted assistance schools are
assessed in Reading/ELA (English
Language Arts)skills.
The tools used to assess students are: the Rigby Comprehension Test,
the DIBELS early literacy test, as well as other locally constructed
instruments.
The
performance of all students attending targeted assistance schools
are assessed in complex skills and challenging subject matter in
Reading/ELA in grades K to 2.
