Fingerprint-Based Background Check
FINGERPRINT-BASED BACKGROUND CHECKSIn January, 2013, Governor Patrick signed Chapter 459 of the Acts of 2012, "An Act Relative to Background Checks". This new law expands the current Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) checks currently used for all employees of our school district.Specifically, this new law requires a fingerprint-based state and federal record check for all school employees who may have direct or unmonitored contact with the students of our district.At the discretion of the district, volunteers, chaperones, host families of foreign exchange students, subcontractors, and individuals completing observations may be exempt from this process, however, these groups will still need to successfully pass the Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) background check.Prospective EmployeesDuring the final stages of interviewing and before an offer of employment, prospective candidates of the Peabody Public School District must submit to a Fingerprint-Based Background Check and be deemed "suitable for employment".Current Employees
All current school district employees, substitute teachers, student teachers, substitute workers, and others deemed appropriate are required to undergo the Fingerprint-Based Background Check.
Unlike the state CORI checks that have no associated fee, individuals will pay a fee to comply with this requirement that costs $35 for non-licensed individuals, and $55 for individuals licensed under G.L. Chapter 71, Section 38G (licensed educators and specialists). When registering, the Peabody Public School Provider ID CODE is 02290000.
